Preparing Your Boiler for Winter

By SDG Services12 February 2026

Winter puts extra demand on your heating system. A little preparation now can prevent breakdowns when you need your boiler most.

1. Book an Annual Service

If your boiler hasn't been serviced in the last 12 months, now is the time. A service ensures everything is running safely and efficiently.

2. Bleed Your Radiators

Air trapped in radiators reduces efficiency. Use a radiator key to release any air - you'll hear a hissing sound when air escapes.

3. Check Your Boiler Pressure

Most combi boilers should show a pressure between 1 and 1.5 bar. If it's too low, you may need to repressurise using the filling loop.
